Elßbeth and Her Medieval Underdress

Something seemed different about her world. It wasn’t the first time the October sun shone on the Black Rain River, and for Elßbeth, it wasn’t new to see the eastern mountain range around the Great Arber clearly in the now quite cold air.

Why did she feel so different today, so comfortable in her body? In her new medieval underdress, she reached the riverbank shortly before the eleventh hour of the day.

It was windless, and her reflection in the clear, calm water captivated her senses, making her linger longer than usual at the sight. Is that really me? she wondered. Slowly, she began to understand the change, which, as time passed, connected more and more with joy, filling her body and spirit with a vitality that felt foreign to her.

Without reason, as if on its own, she began to spin. Her ankle-length, generously woven medieval underdress, made of soft fabric, billowed like a flower’s petals in time with her movements.

Her two hands gently, almost protectively, rested around her neck as she felt the lacing at the back, tracing the contours of her body along the dress. The life of a woman lay before her, a life she could no longer imagine without this medieval underdress.
